BLANCA GARCIA Entering her sixth season as a head coach for Arizona Silver Streaks in 2010, Blanca Garcia has quickly compiled nearly 200 victories and three consecutive Arizona AAU State Championships (2005, 2006, 2007). She was recently named an assistant coach for the women's basketball program at South Mountain Community College in Phoenix, where she will work for Head Coach Cassie Sawyer. Her 2009 Silver Streaks team produced five NCAA Division I scholarship players, including Morgan Wohltman (Idaho State), Kaela Oakes (Idaho State), Tyler Stephens-Jenkins (Northern Arizona), Malia Magazzeni (New Mexico State), and Chanel Thorley (Southern Utah). In addition, 2009 Streaks graduates Nicole Coggins (Denison University) and Sara Nicholson (Pima Junior College) earned scholarships to play college basketball. Her "Class of 2010" had six players earn college scholarships; including Jennifer Schlott (Utah State), Enjoli Bland (Sacred Heart), Kaitlin Meister (Briar Cliff Univeristy), Lia Kioa (South Mountain CC), Jenay Locke (Mesa CC), and Bri Guthrie (Pima JC). Garcia spent two seasons (2005-2007) as the head junior varsity coach at Mountain View High School in Mesa, Ariz., where she was promoted to varsity assistant coach for the 2007-08 campaign and served in that capacity through the 2009-10 season. Mountain View advanced to two straight Class 5A Final Four finishes, including state runner-up in 2007 with a 31-3 record and advanced to the 2009 Class 5A State semi-final game in March. Garcia spent the 2004-05 season as an assistant varsity girl’s basketball coach at Estrella Foothills High School. Prior to joining the coaching ranks, she was a two-year starter at point guard at Fort Lewis College, a NCAA Division II school in Colorado. She played her first two seasons at Glendale Community College, guiding the team to a region championship in 2001 and earned third team All-America honors.
